To ensure tighter controls over the raw material supply processes, Welding Units purchases a variety of materials in ingot form which is then converted into forged bar condition to be stocked at our Rainford facility. As with our forging stocks, chemical analysis restrictions are carefully imposed to ensure that subsequent mechanical properties are achieved after forging and heat treatment.
The concept allows total flexibility in terms of the many forging geometries we are able to produce and more stringent controls over the associated forging, heat treatment and mechanical testing activities.
Significant investment in external overhead craneage facilities and heavy duty 1 metre bandsaw capacity has allowed us to manage the distribution of the material and co-ordinate the subsequent processes more efficiently.
Material grades include:
- Carbon steels to ASTM A694 Grades F52, F60 and F65.
- Low alloy steel to AISI 4130 (typically used for API 6A applications).
