Welding Units' manufacturing facility boasts some of the most technically advanced machines and operating systems available. All machines are CNC and are programmed by qualified production engineers on a job specific basis. The machines are also connected to a central server that will allow remote programming from a single source via CAM software. This facility initially allows the most complex part to be visualised on screen thereby allowing tool selection, times and costs to be optimised and verification of the program prior to manufacture. The programme can then be downloaded to the work centre for manufacture to commence.
All stages of manufacture are closely monitored, with instructions for each individual machining operation being conveyed to the operators by means of a “route card” that accompanies the product throughout its production life. Each stage of manufacture is electronically linked to an MRP system which enables the viewer to check the progress or status of any given part 24 hours a day.
The workshop consists of five core manufacturing zones ensuring maximum efficiency throughout the production process:
Zone 1: 1000mm Bandsaw for cutting raw material for forging
Zone 2: Turning machines for flanges up to 4" NB diameter
Zone 3: Turning machines for flanges between 4" NB and 12" NB
Zone 4: Turning machines for flanges greater than 12" NB (up to 2000mm diameter)
Zone 5: Machining centres for drilling and manufacture of special non-symmetrical parts, i.e. studded blocks, saddles, etc
NDT Inspection
To complement our manufacturing resources, the workshop also houses a purpose built NDT facility to enable magnetic particle inspection (MPI) and dye penetrant examination (DPE) to be performed in-house, by our own qualified technicians. The facility is also equipped to accommodate sub-contract ultrasonic examination (UT). After completion of NDT, all goods pass through strict dimensional checks to undergo final stamping after which, they are prepared for despatch.
